Nutrition Counseling

As your family dentist, Dr. Evans, Dr. Ziemba and the staff of Pioneer Valley Dental Arts emphasizes the role that your oral health plays in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and lasting physical well being. Nutrition and diet are key factors, playing an important role in not only your overall health, but your oral health as well.

Here are some tips to maintain a well-balanced life and healthy smile:

  • Drink 8 cups of water a day. Water is not only important for keeping your body and organs hydrated, water helps regulate your saliva which is your body’s natural defense against cavities.
  • Eat your fruits and vegetables. The vitamins and minerals found in fruits and vegetables are crucial to the health of your mouth as well as the rest of your body. (Vitamins A, B and C are vital for healthy and firm gum and soft tissues. Vitamin D and Calcium are vital minerals to strengthen your teeth and the bone that holds your teeth in place).
  • Incorporate whole grains– whole grains are known to reduce inflammation in the body. With proper homecare (and professional therapy when needed) your body is able to fight off gum/periodontal disease more effectively with the incorporation of whole grains in the diet.
  • Say ‘Cheese’!! Dairy is an incredible source of calcium which is important for your bone and periodontal health. Dairy is also “cariostatic” which means it fights the bacteria that causes cavities.
