While most tooth stains respond well to professional teeth whitening, there are certain situations where an alternative cosmetic treatment may be considered more successful for a lasting result.
For lasting results from a teeth whitening treatment, we recommend avoiding tobacco use, smoking and dark foods or beverages. If you do consume tea, coffee or other teeth staining foods frequently, rinse the mouth with water or chew sugar free gum afterwards to remove most of the harmful bacteria and food residue from the surface of the teeth. The Zoom in office treatment will take approximately one hour. It is recommended that you begin with teeth that are clean and healthy, free of decay or gum disease. Dr. Evans or Dr. Ziemba will make any recommendations for dental care prior to your treatment that will ensure the best possible result.
Your teeth whitening treatment will begin by applying a specially formulated gel to the teeth, after the gums are protected with a flexible plastic cover. The gel will be activated by a special light, remaining on the teeth for about 15 minutes.
This process is repeated 3 times and the treatment is completed with the application of a fluoride gel that will reduce sensitivity and protect the tooth enamel.
Zoom can whiten the teeth up to 8 shades lighter for a younger looking smile that will maintain its appearance for a year or more with good oral hygiene and occasional touch ups.
Teeth Whitening At Home
If you prefer to whiten your smile on your time, in the comfort of you home, we offer the Zoom take home teeth whitening kit. This customized professional teeth whitening kit will provide gradual results that will be superior to those achieved with over the counter options.
The first step will be a short visit to our Longmeadow dentist office for dental impressions. These are used in creating the custom bleaching trays used at home to apply the Zoom bleaching products. Custom trays provide protection for the gums and an even distribution of the bleaching gel for maximum results.
Over a period of about 2 weeks, your smile will whiten and brighten. Periodic touch ups will help keep your teeth looking great for a year or more, depending on lifestyle habits that can darken and stain the teeth.
