Dr. Evans and Dr. Ziemba provide oral conscious sedation which is administered in the form of a pill. Oral conscious sedation enables you to be alert, responsive and in control of your bodily functions while feeling calm and pain free. In most cases, patients report no memory of their procedure.

Oral conscious sedation takes some time to take effect and also needs time to wear off. Patients receiving this type of sedation will need to be escorted to and from their appointment, especially if they are prescribed an at home starter dose prior to treatment. There are a range of medications that can be used for oral sedation, depending on your unique needs and medical history.

For your safety and a successful result with your prescribed medication, Dr. Evans or Dr. Ziemba will discuss your medical history and overall health prior to your procedure visit.

Nitrous Oxide, or “laughing gas”, is a commonly requested dental sedation also offered at our Longmeadow dentist office. Delivered via a small cannula placed beneath the nose, nitrous is an inhalation sedation that can be more convenient for many patients. One of the key benefits with nitrous oxide is the ability to drive your self home after your treatment: the inhaled gas only takes effect when you are breathing it in and wears off almost immediately.

Nitrous oxide can provide the same effects as oral sedation, enabling you to be responsive and alert while feeling relaxed and pain free.

If you have concerns or questions about sedation dentistry, contact our office or discuss them during your initial consultation. Our goal is to ensure your comfort and the best possible outcome from your dental treatment.
