Zoom Whitening!

People today often want a whiter, brighter smile and instant gratification.  In our office we offer a few different options of whitening. The most effective and  quickest  is Zoom Whitening.  Zoom Whitening is an in office procedure that lightens discolored enamel.  Tooth discoloration may result from your diet; drinking coffee, tea, colas, red wine or from smoking.  The aging process can also stain and darken your teeth about one shade every decade.

Consultation and Treatment Planning

Before we  determine if Zoom is the whitening process that is right for you, you will need to be screened by one of our doctors.  The doctor will examine your teeth and gums to ensure you are a proper candidate.  If you have any fillings, bondings  or caps in your smile zone, they will not whiten like natural teeth, so they may need to be reevaluated after whitening and possibly replaced to match the new shade.

Zoom whitening may also be considered by you prior to other cosmetic dental work such as smile design with bondings, veneers and or caps in the smile zone.

If you are a candidate you will first be scheduled for a Zoom Whitening work up, which includes impressions of your upper and lower jaw, reviewing and signing consent forms , the post op session instructions, a before shade photo and finally delivery of a desensitizing tooth paste to use for a week before the actual whitening session.

The Zoom Procedure

The Zoom Whitening procedure takes about an hour and a half to two hours.

The session begins with a short procedure to isolate your teeth.  We then apply the Zoom Whitening gel, which works in conjunction with a blue activation light.  The gel will remain on the teeth for a 15 minute cycle. A normal session will be 3 to 4 cycles.  During this time you can relax listening to music or reading a good book.

Aftercare

After the zoom session is done the assistant will take an after photo and go over post op instructions along with showing you how to use the touch up kit with custom fitted bleaching trays.  To help maintain the whitening effect of the Zoom treatment, you will have to follow a white diet for the first 48 hours.
